bridging cultures
I have taught foreign languages in the UK from 1998, the year I started my Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, until 2010.
During those years I worked mainly with post-secondary and post-tertiary education and have also run language courses for specific business purposes (for example IT consulting, football talent scouting, tourism) – in both cases I taught beginner and intermediate levels and my clients ranged from university or adult education college students to private language schools or private individuals.
In 2011 I moved to Italy, where I tutored secondary school and university students chiefly at B2 and C1 level.
For a period of time I worked as the Director of Studies of a private language school while also working there as a senior instructor.
Currently, I specialise in intensive language courses from an advanced level to proficiency, I only run courses both for university graduates, post-graduates, and the business sector.
I do not work by the hour but rather prepare bespoke packages for individual requirements and fit the client’s objective and short deadlines into my curriculum - ideally I work toward gaining a full CEFR level in no longer than three months.
Personally, I do not believe that one can learn a language in six weeks or from one's sofa or during the daily commute - it is in fact work that requires time and dedication, but results can come amazingly quickly and make one feel exhilaratingly accomplished.
Ideally in my courses, I focus on generic lexical enrichment, perfecting enunciation and verbal communication, achieving effective written communication, culture-specific expressions, translation techniques, sector-specific vocabulary.
I am a freelance tutor and translator - I am very passionate about my job and a keen innovator and problem solver.
